This text is more about how to communicate in a politically correct way to minorities than it is about taking care of people. Yes, some races and ethnicities tend to have certain problems others may not, but there shouldn't be victims. All races and ethnicities should be treated fairly and with respect. This text lacks a good vision for good health care for all.

Truthfully, this book was required for a nursing class but I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was repetative at times, but it was filled with information that was necessary for my quizzes/testing and also for clinical practice. This is one book that I decided to keep after the fact. Sometimes that repetition makes the point stay in your mind! Again, a necessary book but a good companion to class.

The book contains NUMEROUS errors!!!!! I also paid the publisher for a subscription to the tools on the books website and found MANY errors in the online quizzes. I contacted the book's publisher and they responded that they would "check into it". For example,one question asked "which woman..." and the answers were 1. A woman.... 2.A homeless man... 3. A child .. 4. An infant... According to the website, the answer was supposed to be "the infant..." How could the answer be "an infant" if the question was "which woman"???? There has to be a better book for schools to use!!!

Used this book for an (aptly titled) Health Promotion Throughout the Lifespan course. The book has 25 chapters, almost all seemingly written by different authors. After reading the entirety of the book, it feels as if Edelman and Mandle were simply the people credited for slapping other people's works between two covers, without editing for continuity . While I understand that having multiple authors throughout is an acceptable practice when covering such a broad topic (you want an expert in each area giving their expertise), this book would consistently contradict itself from one chapter to another. The only example I can currently think of is the advisory on when a child can start sitting in the front seat of a car. Some areas suggested age 12, other chapters recommended 13. This can be problematic for a student when an exam comes along, and the professor is using the test bank from the text. Which chapter did the question and answer come from? A small example, but me and my classmates came up with several throughout the semester.

I definitely like it. Got no choice since it's required in my FNP course.

The packaging was nice and the book itself was easy to read and very informative. However, the information in the book was extremely stereotypical to minorities. You'll definitely learn a lot about how bad African Americans and Hispanics have it.

Prior to buying this required book for my Nursing Health Promotions course, the reviews I read were aweful. I wished that I did not have to buy it but it was required. However, I am pleasantly surprised that the book has been truly helpful so far. It has a lot of repetitions of the same infromation but overall I think it is a good book for the nurse educator.

Got it fast! The book has a lot of mistakes, my professor really disliked it. I thought It was easy to read and understand .
